The two Duquesne boats were the Duquesne 2V8+, on the water for their first race of the day, and the Duquesne 3V8+, out for their second and final race of the day. The fourth race of the day was a matchup between two Duquesne boats and one Robert Morris boat. Duquesne lead wire-to-wire, earning a 17 second victory over RMU. After settling to their race pace off the start, the Dukes established a margin over the Colonials that increased as the boats approached the finish line. Off the start, the Dukes found a good rhythm and settled into a strong race cadence. The third race of the day featured a head-to-head matchup between the Duquesne 1V8+ and the Robert Morris 1V8+. Duquesne's 4V8+ had a similar experience to the 3V8+ they started off down to the GMU 2V8+, but right in the middle of the third 500m of the race, the Dukes found an extra bit of speed and methodically pushed their bow ball past the Patriots, earning a two second victory over GMU, with RMU trailing by 11 seconds. The second boat out for the Dukes was the 4V8+, which raced the George Mason 2V8+ and the Robert Morris 2V8+. Off the start line, the GMU 8+ managed to grab a lead on the DUQ 3V8, but with about 800m to go, the Dukes found some inspiration from their coxswain, and charged through the GMU 1V8, finishing three seconds ahead and earning a first place in their race, with RMU trailing GMU by 10 seconds. The first boat out for the Dukes was the Duquesne 3V8+ against the George Mason 1V8 and Robert Morris 1V8. Because of the high flow conditions, each program only raced 8+s. The racing for the day saw each boat race twice against different boats each time. The later morning races faced a 10mph crosswind, but with a 55,000 cubic foot per second flow rate, the wind was far from enough to disturb the surface of the water in a meaningful way, so the high flow, fast conditions, and bright sunshine were the perfect punchlines to the April Fool's forecast, and the Dukes eagerly took to the water for some racing. The weather forecast was rather dire for the day, with thunderstorms, high winds, and high river flow forecasted only the high river flow materialized for the competition. On Saturday, April 1 st, the Duquesne Dukes opened their spring racing season with a race on the Ohio River against conference foes George Mason, and hosts Robert Morris. ![]()
